Vegan MoFo IV, Day #24, Week #4: Vegan Mish Mash and Whatnot
Not to diminish the delightfulness of the establishment one iota, but I feel I must offer up complete transparency: I am absolutely smitten with the word “cupcakery.” Cupcakery. Say it! It’s positively whimsical! There are not a lot of cupcakeries were a vegan feels welcome. Fluffy, creamy, meringuey, custardy, not so much vegany, a girl can get discouraged real fast.
Then came May 22, 2010. I want to say that I’ll always remember it because it was my 5 year wedding anniversary to the very tall, dark, handsome, talented and quick as hell man that is my husband. And I want to say that because it is true. But it is also the very first time a confectionery from Pink Sugar Cupcakery touched my pouty little lips. Oh. Hell. Yeah.
Turns out my man custom orders and Pink Sugar is more than happy to accommodate. Vegan chocolate cake topped with vegan orange icing, vegan vanilla icing in the middle, decorated with fancy-smancy vegan vanilla icing flowers. Can I get a “oh hell yeah”? Oh hell yeah. Now read this. Oh hell yeah.
Very rich, very decadent, this cake is definitely an indulgence and I do not often indulge. But for those of you who do, I recommend getting your cupcake hole (notice how everything has a hole in my world? Take that, Freud!) filled as often as possible. The balance of citrus-y-silky-vanilla-y-dark-chocolate-y-ness was simply divine. And I always recommend divinity.
But being the stuck-up and repressed little vegan that I am, I have not been back. I’ve perused their wares to no end, no doubt, and yearned for them so much, yet there’s been nothing worth celebrating to such an extreme extent until now. A bunch of free Atlas Sound demos and my manfriend’s birthday all in one week! OK CAKE!!!! I will get you tomorrow. Oh yes, you will be mine (I mean “ours,” of course), oh yes. You will be mine.
I’m indulging in birthday fun tomorrow, so all you MoFo’s are getting are some insidiously sultry photos of some way too amazing birthday cake. You’ll LOVE it!
