Vegan MoFo IV, Day #13, Week #2: Vegan Snacks
Today is Saturday, so than rather writing up another enticing recipe that will keep you tethered to your computing and cooking devices on this most auspicious of days, I will give you something just as good: a reason to venture out into this big, beautiful world of ours and get your vegan snack on.
With a mandate “to use ingredients that are healthy and sourced from as close to [the] bakery as possible,” Wild Fire Organic Bakery is one of my favourite snack places in the history snacks. All 3 of my babies were cooked using Wild Fire Sprouted Wheat Buns as a primary fuel source.
Located at 1517 Quadra St in the always enchanting city of Victoria, BC, Wild Fire Organic Bakery uses mainly certified organic ingredients and supports local farmers and sustainable growing methods.
While not exclusively vegan, Wild Fire offer a wide range of vegan choices, including the most incredibly-edibly delicious vegan pizzas you ever did sink your herbivorous teeth into. Wild Fire also makes some crazy yummy vegan desserts, such as their spicy good carrot cake and a dangerously chocolate-y chocolate cake. Wild Fire vegan muffins are huge and terrific (and hugely terrific): Lemon Poppy Seed Pear and Orange Raisin Bran are two of my favourites, but the Berry Ginger is always so hard to resist. I am a sucker for olive bread and Wild Fire delivers a killer Black Olive bagette featuring Sicilian black olives, Kalamatas and rosemary, which is also available in loaf form.
Looking for gluten-free choices? Want to be sure there’s no sneaky dairy lurking anywhere in your crusty loaf? Check out a complete list of products and ingredients right here and munch in peace.
Wild Fire Organic is aptly named, housing a wood-fired brick oven to bake up their naturally leavened loaves real nice like. Real nice like. Hate when you have your heart set on an fantastic Apricot Anise loaf only to arrive at the bakery to see a cocky hipster sauntering out with the last one? Me too (I’ll get you, hipster, just you wait.) But luckily you can order your loaves online and save yourself the time and aggravation of post-traumatic hipster hunting. Wild Fire’s artisan bakers encourage custom orders, so if you’ve always wondered what your Uncle Tito’s head would look like in loaf form, now’s your chance!
So leave your computer be and come satisfy your carb-hole (my carb-hole is HUGE and insatiable!) at the healthy, delectable and socially conscious Wild Fire Organic Bakery in Victoria, BC.
